The facts will come out, they always do. 6 months, 6 years, 60 years from now, and there will always be consequences. As a society, we are certainly paying for the sins of the fathers, and especially for those that decided to lie, cheat, steal, kill, for their own benefit, for their own family’s benefit regardless of the violence it brought on others. We are the world, just as the song said; we are the ones that will suffer the consequences of our actions. This beautiful rock that we call earth, will live on without us, there will be life forms that will populate it and we will be part of that ecosystem only if we take a deep breath and consider every living person and thing and how they are faring in a world that is changing because of the pressures we add to it because of our carelessness or out right wantonness.

Democracy is not on trial, it never is. Democracy is a system of government by the whole population or all the eligible members of a state, typically through elected representatives. Who is on trial is the people that make up this democracy. The folks that are now suggesting that people must die because it is too expensive otherwise, that it is okay that another state invades the most basic tenant of the democracy, because it benefits them personally. These folks are also on their way to recreate a past that was filled with hate and violence and opportunism from those that got unexpected windfalls from the personal networks they had through family or friends of the family.

Social media has many of detractors and also it has many proponents, what is clear it is just another set of tool to create a narrative for an ideology or a pitch. One of the clearest opportunities is that it can allow for us to follow the written, photographed or shared intentions of those that are making an effort to persuade or intimidate. This is why social media is important and the understanding of media as a whole is crucial. Another necessary tool is the understanding of people for the sake of understanding the whole picture. One thing that is real is that media companies do have a bias, and we must be aware of them so that we make better decisions. CNN, Fox, Univison, Russia TV, Al Jazeera, etc., all have biases and when we hear them, it is imperative that we listen with a critical mind. Social media platforms, and online search engines, now allow us to research for those obscure original sources so that we can either, read, hear or watch the source of what is presented. This new opportunity to find out what happens and to review the perspective and the reason of such information also creates an anxiety of truth. Who can we trust to tell us what is not to try and convince us of what they want us to accept so they can do that things they want to execute.

In the end, the truth will come to be available and those that are in power or the people will demand the civility that is necessary for a civilization to live peacefully rather than learning to survive the trauma we are creating on each other. Social media amplifies and can be used to empower people, organize and fund movements.
