There are only 365 per year and every day is a precious amount of time to spend noticed online, especially on the Google landing page. Google executes over 3.5 billion searches per day, the exposure for any icon, entity or event is extraordinary. Featuring Mexican Icon, Pedro Infante, “the Mexican actor and singer. Hailed as one of the greatest actors of the Mexican Golden Age of Cinema” is certainly a way to present proof of the Mexico many know and love, and under the current administration it can be considered a subversive action.
Pedro Infante worked along many of the most loved artists of his era such as Jorge Negrete, Maria Felix, Lola Beltran, Pedro Vargas, Sara Garcia, Agustin Lara and many others who are still reminiscent of the moment lived in the early world of Mexican cinema. He portrayed the noble “indigena” on Tizoc; the honest policeman, “A Toda Maquina,” and the hard working “obrero” destroyed by corruption on “Nosotros Los Pobres,” he also portrayed other Mexican heroes such as composer Juventino Rosas in “Sobre Las Olas.”
Google is presenting the face that counteracts the vile rhetoric that has invaded the mind of many afraid of the common Mexican, here in the US and in Mexico itself. Pedro Infante presented to the world the face every Mexican can be proud of. Google having this iconic actor can be seen as an act of rebellion or bravery, depending on which side you find yourself in.
This act of inclusion and exposition is a great gift that the online world can do to counteract the damage done by demagogues, it allows for those attacked by ignorance and hate to see themselves portrayed, lionized and accepted, especially in a world where we use high tech at the expense of high touch.
BRAVO GOOGLE BRAVO!! Can’t wait to see who is the next person you celebrate!
